About this place
Overlooking the green expanse of Nishikyogoku Athletic Park through wide glass windows, Sunbeam is a welcoming kissaten for a quiet morning or an unhurried afternoon. Mellow jazz tunes and the fragrance of the house blend coffee, carefully brewed using a flannel nel drip, softly greet patrons as they step inside.
A longstanding morning favourite is the Potato Morning set, paired with a cup of hot coffee or tea. The bread selection is thoughtfully prepared yet unpretentious, featuring potato toast, egg toast topped with fluffy baked egg, curry-sauce pizza toast, and apple toast spread with house-made apple jam. Fluffy egg sandwiches and generously packed mixed sandwiches also make satisfying choices for a lighter meal.
At lunchtime, the kitchen turns out hearty Western-style yoshoku fare, including pork cutlet curry prepared with Mokumoku Iga pork, a spicy hot curry, and a fried prawn set meal served with house-made tartar sauce. A weekday daily lunch special is also on hand, providing a dependable midday meal before or after visiting the nearby sports facilities or workplaces.
For teatime or dessert, crisp scones served with textured homemade apple jam, the rich chocolate Coco Chocolat cake, and a refreshing orange chiffon cake make natural pairings for coffee. The cafe is open Wednesday through Friday from 9:30 to 13:30, and payment is cash only. Filtered daylight pouring through the glass panes makes this a tranquil spot to pause and appreciate thoughtful, home-style cooking.
